What is doing your own books costing you?

Doing your own books is not free. It costs hours, and those hours have a value. Answer a few questions to see the number for yourself, and what it costs to get those hours back.

01Your numbers
Adjust anything as you go

Categorizing transactions, reconciling accounts, fixing what did not match, pulling reports.

What an hour of your time is worth

What you charge a client for an hour of your work.

That works out to {{ derivedRateLabel }} an hour.

Zero if you are current.

Rather talk?

A quote takes eight questions and comes back within a business day. If you would rather just talk it through, either of these works.

Your answers stay in your browser. Nothing is submitted or stored.

02The arithmetic
No hidden assumptions

Here is exactly what it does.

Your weekly hours times 52, less about an hour a month to review what I send you, times what an hour of your time is worth. Handing the books off does not take your time to zero, and the number above does not pretend it does.

What it leaves out: missed deductions, penalties, interest, and the cost of a mistake nobody caught. Those are real and they are not in this number, which means your actual cost is higher than what you see above.

03What to do with it
Three honest answers
A

Keep doing it

If the number is small and the work does not bother you, that is a real answer. Plenty of owners handle their own books for years and it is fine.

B

Get current, then reassess

If you are months behind, the backlog is its own problem. A catch-up gets you to a clean starting point without committing to anything monthly.

C

Hand it off

If those hours are worth more spent elsewhere, monthly bookkeeping takes it off your plate for good. Monthly bookkeeping is quoted on your volume and complexity.

04Next step
Response within one business day

Now you have a number.

Answer eight questions about your books and I will come back with a quote within one business day. If you would rather talk it through first, that works too.
