Frequently Asked Questions

Questions,

A few things people usually want to know before we talk: what bookkeeping covers, what it costs, and how getting started works. If yours isn't here, reach out and ask.

01 Common questions
Bookkeeping · pricing · getting started
01 How much does a bookkeeper cost for a small business?

It depends on your transaction volume, how complex your books are, and how much you want me involved beyond the books themselves. Monthly bookkeeping starts at $500 a month, and most clients land between $500 and $1,600 depending on those factors. Clients who want full advisory support, like forecasting and strategy, run higher. Catch-up and cleanup is quoted separately based on scope. I price by flat fee wherever possible, so you always know what to expect, with no surprise hourly bills.

02 What's the difference between a bookkeeper and a CPA?

They do different jobs, and most businesses benefit from both. I handle the ongoing work: recording transactions, reconciling accounts, and producing accurate monthly financials. Your CPA uses those clean books to file your taxes and advise on tax strategy. Good bookkeeping makes your CPA's job faster and easier, which often means lower fees at tax time.

03 Do I still need a bookkeeper if I already have a CPA?

Usually, yes. Most CPAs focus on tax filing and advisory, not day-to-day bookkeeping. When the year-end books arrive clean and reconciled, your CPA can do their work efficiently instead of cleaning up first. I work alongside your CPA, not in place of them.

04 What's included in monthly bookkeeping?

Each month I categorize your transactions and reconcile every account, then send you a clear set of reports: profit and loss, balance sheet, and a cash flow summary. You end up with books that are organized and ready the moment you need them, whether that's for a loan, a tax deadline, or simply knowing where your business stands.

05 Can you work with my business remotely?

Yes. I work entirely in QuickBooks Online, so everything is done remotely. I'm based in Wisconsin and work with clients across the Fox Cities, Green Bay, and the rest of the country.

06 What is a QuickBooks ProAdvisor?

A ProAdvisor is a bookkeeper or accountant certified by Intuit in QuickBooks Online. I'm a certified ProAdvisor and I'm also Payroll certified, which together cover complex setup, troubleshooting, and reporting. In practice it means I know the software deeply and can get your file structured correctly from the start.

07 My books are behind or a mess. Can you help?

Yes, and there's no judgment here. Whether you're a few months behind or you inherited someone else's mess, I'll bring your books current, correct miscategorizations, and get you back on solid footing. Catch-up and cleanup is scoped and quoted separately from ongoing work.

08 How do I switch from my current bookkeeper to you?

It's straightforward. We start with a discovery call to understand your setup, I review your current QuickBooks Online file, and we map out a clean transition so nothing falls through the cracks. You won't have to manage the handoff yourself.

09 What areas do you serve?

I'm based in Wisconsin and work with small businesses across the Fox Cities and Green Bay, as well as clients throughout the United States. All work is done remotely through QuickBooks Online.

10 How do we get started?

Schedule a 30-minute discovery call. No pressure, no commitment, just a conversation about your business and your bookkeeping needs. From there I'll put together a proposal scoped to what you need.
